GDC Attendance Down

Attendance for last week's Game Developers Conference was over 17K, down from a record-setting 2008 show that saw over 18K attendees.

But Meggan Scavio, GDC director, appeared happy with the numbers, particularly considering the current state of the economy.

"We are thrilled with our final numbers. It just proves that even in a struggling economy, people see GDC as a must-attend event," she said in an e-mail to Edge.

No UK PS2 Price Cut
Sony has no plans to drop the price of the PS2 in the UK.

An SCEE spokesperson confirmed the news to Edge following SCEA’s announcement that the nine year-old system would see a $30 price drop in North America.

SCEE did state that from April 1 the PS2 will see a €30 price reduction in Europe, taking the cost of the console to €100. “However, there are currently no plans to cut the price of PS2 in the UK,” a spokesperson said.

Sony Trademarks "PS Cloud"

A trademark filing last week suggests that Sony Computer Entertainment is interested in the same cloud computing concepts that have been causing a stir in the games industry as of late.

SCE filed a trademark for "PS Cloud" on March 24 this year, the same day that OnLive formally announced the cloud-based OnLive Gaming Service.
